Steve Bernier is responsible for providing the technical leadership toward the achievement of NordiaSoft’s goals and objectives, as well as for defining and planning long-range orientations for the creation of innovative products and services for embedded software component technologies.
Mr. Bernier received a technical degree in Computer Science in 1991 and started his career as a software developer in the IT world. He then obtained his B.Sc. in Computer Science in 1997 and his M.Sc. in 2000 from the Université de Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada where he concentrated on real-time software development, distributed systems, middleware, and operating systems.
Before co-founding NordiaSoft, Mr. Bernier worked at the Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC) for 14 years. As a research scientist, he innovated in the field of middleware for software-defined radio. He was also the Research Manager of the CRC Advanced Radio Systems group which made several key contributions to the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) specification. Under his leadership, the CRC group created the first commercial-off-the-shelf SCA Core Framework to have been deployed in the military battlefield. In 2008, the CRC team was awarded the annual Federal Partnership Technology Transfer award for its excellence in technology transfer to industry. In 2010, the Wireless Innovation Forum (WInnF), an international forum with over 100 member organizations recognized as leaders in the wireless communications industry, awarded its International Achievement Award to the CRC group for the significance of its research and its success in getting the SCA adopted at the international level. Steve has been involved in the definition of each release of the SCA specification since the year 2000. More recently, Steve was awarded the 2014 Wireless Innovation Forum’s President’s Award in recognition of his sustained outstanding contributions in support of the Wireless Innovation Forum and its activities to develop technical solutions in multiple areas of the SCA standard.
Before joining the CRC, Mr. Bernier worked for Lockheed Martin Canada where he developed message-oriented middleware for embedded real-time distributed systems.
